Following the „path of shipments“ and the needs of our clients – online merchants, we officially launched operations in two new own fulfillment warehouses – one in Italy and one in Spain. Both fully supported by our software and operational processes. The two new locations significantly improve transit times to the rapidly growing markets of Southern Europe, positioning our clients as fully competitive to local online merchants. The new fulfillment warehouses strengthen our regional presence, enabling us to serve not only our existing clients who are expanding their online sales in these markets, but also local eCommerce businesses who want to establish international sales in foreign markets.
You may ask what is the update with our previous partner hubs in Italy and Spain. Until now, our operational model there has been based on a local integrated fulfilment partner. As a result, we have been dependent on their operational capacity and standards, as well as on their preferred last-mile partners and negotiated rates.
Now everything is changing – and improving. There will be no local subcontractors; instead, we will have direct relations with the last-mile partners, etc. In the lines below, we will provide you details about the two new hubs, integrated local last-mile and other logistics solutions, and all the details you need to know if you are considering online sales in Italy, Spain, and Southern Europe in general.
The new fulfillment warehouse in Bolzano, Italy, serves as a strategic gateway between Italy Central/Northern Europe. The location is directly linked with main highways, ensuring fast connectivity to both northbound and southbound. Another key factor is the proximity to major cities like:
These connections provide efficient access to key Italian and cross-border logistics routes. Moreover, the new warehouse is located less than one kilometer from the depots of our last-mile partners for Italy – BRT and Poste Italiane. For another last-mile partner – GLS Italy, direct parcel pickup from the warehouse is arranged. This combination of strategic location and logistics synchronization guarantees next-day delivery to Italy by the most preferred local last-mile delivery providers.
The new fulfillment warehouse spans a 2000 sqm operational and storage area, with dedicated fulfillment and cross-docking zones. Both pallet and picking capacity are scalable on demand. The warehouse currently operates with 500 pallet locations and 200 sqm of picking area, plus 2 ramps facilitating reception of goods and dispatch of ready-for-delivery parcels. The warehouse is equipped with modern machinery, including eco-friendly electric forklifts for indoor purposes and a pallet wrapping machine that securely wraps pallets of goods with stretch film. Automated conveyor system Packmaster – the backbone of parcel automation inside the facility, moves parcels between operational zones, ensuring each and every parcel is scanned, measured, and registered in the system. It supports dynamic D&W (Dimensions&Weight) updates to reduce manual scanning and completely avoid human errors. All together, these machines enable scalable fulfillment processes fully aligned with eiShipments.com quality standards.
Our new fulfillment hub in Barcelona, Spain, facilitates next-day delivery coverage for both the Spanish and Portuguese market. Integrated with the major regional last-mile delivery providers – CTT Express and Correos, the warehouse stands only a few kilometers away from their local hubs.
This facility also operates with euShipments.com software and standardized processes, spanning 13500 sqm of operational area, with the large-scale capacity of 23000 pallet locations and 15000 picking locations. The high-bay pallet racking system of 10,5 m. height allows for strong vertical space optimization, with 1200 multiple-level rack bays. Seamlessly serving two markets as domestics, this facility is designed to provide the infrastructure required for sustained volume growth and operational resilience. With 15 loading bays, 5 truck gates, and 2 ramps, the inbound and outbound capacity of the hub ensures high performance of the cross-docking operations. Additionally, the current fulfillment capacity of over 10000 orders per day secures faster deliveries and smoother peak period performance.
From the beginning of this article we stated that the two new own fulfillment warehouses are fully supported by the euShipments.com software and operations. But what does it mean?
The new warehouses in Italy and Spain are not standalone facilities within our network. They operate on the same euShipments.com warehouse management system (WMS) and integration layer as the rest of our own fulfillment warehouses. All fulfillment and cross-docking processes are also unified. The on-site team in both locations performs the same workflow for each and every process within the facility as per the rest of the euShipments.com proprietary fulfillment hubs. For the online merchants this means one-warehouse experience across multiple facilities. The service quality is consistently high regardless of the location, which leads to faster fulfillment onboarding of new online merchants and stable performance during peak periods.
